Sunday Morning Texas Rangers Update

Today’s a big day

Good morning. The fate of the franchise could be forever altered later today with the Texas Rangers selecting at No. 2 in the first round of the opening night of the MLB Draft. No pressure or anything.

Alyson Footer writes that despite homers from their All-Stars, the Rangers lost a weird one in 11 innings against Oakland on Saturday.

The DMN’s Aaron Kasinitz recaps the 8-4 loss where missed opportunities ultimately doomed Texas in their quest to preemptively claim the first half’s final series.

Footer writes about Joey Gallo and Matt Olson getting in some pre-Derby cuts at The Shed yesterday before the real thing in Colorado on Monday.

Kennedi Landry writes about the special bond between Gallo and Tony Beasley with the Rangers’ third-base coach being Gallo’s choice for Derby pitcher.

It is at this point in my search for links that I discovered that Jeff Wilson going his own way from the FWST has forced them to give Mac Engel free rein to pump out his terrible, uninformed, vindictive Rangers opinion pieces to fill space until they get a replacement beat writer and that filler has no value.

Evan Grant notes that Colorado native and Rangers prospect Cole Winn will be the starting pitcher for the American League at this afternoon’s Futures Game from Coors Field.

And, MLB Pipeline’s Jim Callis and Jonathan Mayo have a final dueling mock draft out before the first round kicks off later this evening with both settling on Jack Leiter for Texas.

Have a nice day!
