Season record: 35-55
Week 15 record: 2-4
Series record: 9-18, 2 split
The Rangers lost both series to end the unofficial first half of the 2021 season.
Earlier in the week, they won the middle game of the Detroit Tigers series and then the first game of the Oakland A’s series. They were outscored 31-24.
The Rangers were desperately in need of this break. They’ve consistently gotten worse as the season has gone on. For the month of April, they had a .407 win percentage, in May it was .393, and in June it was .360.
Currently they’re .400 in July. When they come back from the break, they begin a 10 game road trip in Buffalo to play the Toronto Blue Jays who are currently 4.5 games back in the wild card race. Then Detroit for four games before heading to Houston for a weekend series.
They’re 13-30 on the road and 22-25 at home.
The biggest thing with the Rangers is the lack of using momentum. Well except in losing streaks. They have some really great wins, and heck play really good in games they lose. But when they win, they can’t seem to take that momentum into the next game or next series or next week. They score most of the runs in the middle of the game, innings 4 through 6. The pitching staff also has it’s lowest ERA in those same innings.
I know Team Tank would hate this, but I think it would be interesting to see if the 2021 Rangers can manage a turn around, or at least one really great month like the 2014 team. And yes I do realize I am comparing the current team to one of the unluckiest Ranger teams in resent fandom but at this point in the season the 2014 team was 38-52...
See y’all... write y’all after the break!
