Season record: 35-58
Week 16 record: 0-3
Series record: 9-19, 2 split
The Rangers had a very truncated week 16 with just one series against the Toronto Blue Jays of Buffalo after the All-Star Break. On top of that, instead of playing Friday-Sunday, Saturday’s game was postponed due to rain and Sunday turned into a double header day.
None of that helped out Texas. They went 15-0 in Sunday’s two games where they lost 5-0 in game one and 10-0 in game two. Their only two runs of the week came on Friday where they lost 10-2, thanks to a two-run homer by Eli White.
The Rangers are in Detroit tonight to begin a four game series.
Kyle Gibson will start for the Rangers while Casey Mize pitches for the Tigers. Gibson faced Detroit in his start before the ASG and went 6.1 innings and gave up five runs on eight hits and two walks. Mize also faced the Rangers as his last start before the All-Star break and went four innings and gave up two runs on four hits.
Tuesday’s starters will be Dane Dunning and Tarik Skubal. In his two career games versus Detroit, Dunning has pitched 9.1 innings and has given up four runs on six hits and two walks. This will be Skubal’s first time facing the Rangers.
On Wednesday Jordan Lyles will take the mound for the Rangers. This will be Lyles’ third career game against the Tigers. He has a 2.57 ERA in seven innings and given off two runs on eight hits and a walk.
The Tigers don’t currently have a starter listed for Wednesday.
In Thursday’s get away game, Detroit will start Tyler Alexander who is 1-1 this season with a 4.40 ERA in 27 games this year. This will be just his fourth start this season. Alexander has only faced the Rangers once in his career, back in 2019. He went 5.2 innings and gave up four runs on 10 hits.
The Rangers do not have a starter listed for Thursday.
