Baseball America’s midseason update to their top 100 prospect list is out, and the Texas Rangers have three prospects on the list.
As expected, Jack Leiter, the University of Vanderbilt righthander pitcher who the Rangers took with the #2 overall pick in the 2021 MLB Draft, is the top ranked Ranger on BA’s list. Leiter comes in at #37, between righthanded pitcher Sixto Sanchez and righthanded pitcher Max Meyer, with fellow 2021 draftees Jordan Lawlar and Marcelo Mayer at #34 and #35.
2019 first rounder Josh Jung also cracks the BA top 50, checking in at #43 on the list, down slightly from where he was previously at #35. Missing time due to the broken foot no doubt hurt Jung’s ranking, though he is currently hitting well at Frisco.
Finally, 2018 first rounder Cole Winn is at #89 on the list. Winn was at #99 in their most recent update last week, though as I noted at the time, I didn’t think folks should assume he would just drop back out when the new draftees were added. Winn has had a terrific year at AA Frisco, and has himself on track for a possible major league debut at some point in 2022.
