Minor league update for 7/2/21

Some minor league update goodness for you

Round Rock won 3-2 against Sugar Land on a 2 out, 2 run walkoff home run by Yohel Pozo. Hyeon-jong Yang started and allowed a run in four innings of work, walking one, allowing three hits and striking out five. Luis Ortiz allowed a run in two innings of work on a walk, two hits and three Ks. Scott Engler walked two and struck out one in a scoreless inning. Jimmy Herget struck out one in a scoreless inning.

Pozo was 3 for 4, with the home run capping off his night. Ryan Dorow had a triple. Curtis Terry had a pair of hits.

Round Rock box score

Frisco had Cole Winn start, and Winn was quite good, despite giving up three runs, all courtesy of the dreaded two out, three run home run, which struck in the fourth. Winn’s final line was 6 IP, 3 runs on 3 hits, 9 Ks and one walk.

Bubba Thompson went 2 for 4 with a walk and a double. Josh Jung had a hit and a walk. Steele Walker had a double.

Frisco box score

Zak Kent started for Hickory and got knocked around a little. He allowed four runs on seven hits, including a home run, and two walks, striking out four. Seth Nordline allowed a run in three innings of work with three hits, a walk and two Ks.

Kellen Strahm, Frainyer Chavez and Pedro Gonzalez each had a single and a walk. Jonathan Ornelas went 2 for 5 with a triple. Blaine Crim had a pair of hits and a walk. David Garcia had a hit.

Hickory box score

Orceli Gomez started for Down East. I had never heard of him, but he’s a 20 year old 6’5” righthanded pitcher out of Venezuela who had a nice year in the DSL in 2019. Gomez allowed two runs on four hits in 2.1 IP, striking out two. Leury Tejadea allowed two runs in 3 IP on three walks and two hits, striking out four.

Keithron Moss had a walk and a pair of hits. Luisangel Acuna had a hit. Obie Ricumstrict had a walk and a hit.

Down East box score

The complex league Rangers blew out their Padres counterparts by a score of 10-0, courtesy of a nine run first inning. Kai Wynyard started and threw three shutout innings, walking one while striking out four. 2019 30th rounder Anthony Hoopii-Tuionetoa threw a scoreless inning.

Franklin Barreto and Angel Aponte each had hits. Zion Banister had a hit and a walk. Henry Mateo had a walk, a single and a double.

Sam Huff had two hits while continuing his rehab assignment.
