The Texas Rangers have called up relief pitcher Dennis Santana from AAA Round Rock. To make room for Santana on the active roster, the Rangers have optioned pitcher Wes Benjamin to AAA Round Rock. In addition, the Rangers announced that pitcher Shaun Anderson has been claimed on waivers by the Baltimore Orioles.

Santana was acquired by the Rangers from the Los Angeles Dodgers a couple of weeks ago for Kelvin Bautista. The 25 year old righthander throws hard but has a history of control problems which have kept him from establishing himself in the majors. He will presumably get a look in a middle or late game relief role now. He struck out 9 of 13 batters he faced for Round Rock, walking one.

Benjamin, meanwhile, returns to Round Rock once again, and will hopefully get a chance to stay down there long enough to stretch out and get some innings.

Anderson, meanwhile, is no longer a Ranger. He had been claimed by Texas two weeks ago from the Minnesota Twins, but was designated for assignment when they needed to add John Hicks to the roster.
