The Texas Rangers have activated pitcher Josh Sborz from the paternity list, the team announced today. In addition, the Texas Rangers have purchased the contract of righthanded pitchers Jharel Cotton and Drew Anderson from AAA Round Rock.

With the trades of Joey Gallo, Joely Rodriguez, Ian Kennedy and Kyle Gibson, Texas opened up four spots on their active roster. Adding Sborz, Cotton and Anderson fills three of those spots. I think the expectation is that Spencer Howard will be added to the active roster once he reports, but for now, the Rangers’ active roster is just at 25 players.

Sborz went on the paternity list earlier this week, and his return today was expected. I wrote about Cotton and Anderson earlier this week when looking at pitchers who weren’t on the 40 man roster but who were free agents after the season if not added, and thus who could get a look over the final two months.

The 40 man roster now stands at 39.
