Joey Gallo headlines Home Run Derby

Joey Gallo will be participating in the 2021 MLB Home Run Derby, scheduled to take place on Monday, July 12, 2021, at Coors Field in Colorado. Gallo is a member of the American League All Star Team, with the All Star Game scheduled to be played Tuesday, July 13.

Gallo is, as any Texas Rangers fan knows, a prodigious blaster of home runs, and he is about as natural a fit for the Home Run Derby as any player. The only real question is why he has never been picked before now.

Also participating in the event are Shohei Ohtani of the Angels, Juan Soto of the Nationals, Trevor Story of the Rockies, Pete Alonso of the Mets, Trey Mancini of the Orioles, Matt Olson of the Athletics, and Salvador Perez of the Royals.

I think the ideal scenario would be for Gallo and Soto to square off in the final round. Let’s see if we can all wish that into existence...
