Texas Rangers transactions: John King has been placed on the 10 day injured list with left shoulder inflammation, the team announced today. To replace King on the active roster, the Rangers have recalled outfielder Jason Martin from the injured list.
King has been placed on the injured list retroactive to July 7, which means he cannot be activated until July 17. That said, he is not slated to pitch again (in his tandem setup with Dane Dunning) until after July 17, so he could be activated from the injured list and not end up missing any outing. The indication from the beat guys is that the issue with King is minor, and he is not expected to miss his next scheduled appearance.
Martin returns to the Rangers again, giving the Rangers a four man bench against for the time being. Martin has a .162/.225/.243 slash line in 40 plate appearances in the majors this year, and a .286/.419/.679 slash line for Round Rock in 106 plate appearances. I would not be surprised if he were optioned back to Round Rock after Sunday’s game, so he can resume getting playing time in the minors, particularly if it is anticipated that Jose Trevino will be ready to be activated from the injured list after the Break.
