40-74 - Rangers given taste of own one-run medicine in 2-1 loss to Mariners

Seattle gets its revenge

MLB: Texas Rangers at Seattle Mariners Joe Nicholson-USA TODAY Sports

The Texas Rangers scored one run but the Seattle Mariners scored two runs.

After three consecutive one-run victories over the Mariners over the last ten days or so, the Rangers were hoisted by their own petard in this one as Seattle scored the winner in the ninth for a walk-off win.

Player of the Game: The tandem of Spencer Howard and Taylor Hearn combined to give the Rangers seven innings of one-run ball. Starter Howard went three innings and allowed zero runs on two hits and three Ks in his second start with Texas.

Hearn wasn’t as spotless in his effort as he allowed the run on a bases loaded walk and gave the M’s four free passes overall in four innings of work, but when you pair the two together, you have a nice outing as designed.

In a non-awful Rangers vs Mariners contest, Hearn might have even gotten a win.

Up Next: The Rangers and Mariners close out this series with a rubber match with RHP Mike Foltynewicz set to go for Texas against LHP Marco Gonzales for Seattle. First pitch of Thursday’s finale from T-Mobile Park is scheduled for 3:10 pm CT.
