The Texas Rangers have placed Brock Holt, Drew Anderson and Mike Foltynewicz on the COVID-19 injured list, the team announced today. Wes Benjamin and Curtis Terry have been recalled from AAA Round Rock. The team is playing with just 25 players today, although apparently another move will be made tomorrow.

Charlie Culberson was placed on the COVID-19 injured list before Friday’s game against the Boston Red Sox, and it was announced that there would be contact tracing and additional testing done. That work has apparently led to the additional three players landing on the list.

The COVID-19 list has no minimum or maximum duration, so a player placed on the COVID-19 list today due to, for example, showing symptoms could be activated tomorrow or the next day if he tests negative for the virus. A team that experiences a COVID “outbreak” can add players who are not currently on the 40 man roster to the active roster to replace a COVID stricken player and then return to them the minors without having to put them on waivers and outright them; however, an “outbreak” is not defined, so we shall have to see if that applies for the Rangers.

UPDATE — Jonah Heim was scratched for what is apparently precautionary potentially COVID-related reasons, so Yohel Pozo may be the back up catcher for now.
