The Texas Rangers have placed Jonah Heim on the COVID-19 injured list today. They have also optioned Curtis Terry for AAA. Before these moves, they had an open spot on the active roster, which means there are three spots that need to be filled.
Thus, to fill these roster spots, the Rangers have recalled Leody Taveras from AAA Round Rock, and have added infielder Ryan Dorow and pitcher Hyeon-jong Yang. Neither Dorow nor Yang are on the 40 man roster currently, but if there is what MLB deems to be an “outbreak” on a team, a player can be added to the active and 40 man roster to replace a COVID-i’l’d player and that player can then be sent back to the minors and removed from the 40 man roster without the player having to be put on waivers.
In addition, Dane Dunning and Spencer Howard are not on the COVID-19 injured list, but are still in Boston under the COVID protocols, it is being reported. Jake Latz will apparently be brought up on Wednesday, and one of those players will be put on the COVID injured list then. If another move has to be made on Friday to replace one of those players on the active roster, then there will be someone brought up then.
