44-82 - Solo homers doom Rangers to 7-2 loss in Cleveland

That’s a losing season for the Rangers

MLB: Texas Rangers at Cleveland Indians David Richard-USA TODAY Sports

The Texas Rangers scored two runs but the Clevelands scored seven runs.

Tonight’s starting pitcher Jake Latz debuted and, you know what, it was fine. The 2017 fifth-rounder gave up three runs on five hits with zero walks and four strikeouts in 4 23 innings during his first time on a big league mound.

So the bad news is, three of those five hits reached the seats for home runs. That was also Latz’s bugaboo during his ascension in the minor leagues this season, so keeping balls in the park will be the next step in his development.

Anyhow, for basically an emergency effort, Latz’s debut should be considered a success.

After Latz exited, Cleveland added another four runs — including another solo home run — and the bats didn’t have it going like last evening which means they’ll be playing for the series win tomorrow.

Player of the Game: Jason Martin hit a two-run dong to account for the Rangers’ offensive output.

Up Next: The Rangers and future Guardians will battle in the rubber match finale with RHP Jordan Lyles set to make the start for Texas against LHP Sam Hentges for Cleveland. Thursday night’s first pitch from Progressive Field is scheduled for 6:10 pm CT.
