Over at Fangraphs, Eric Longenhagen ranks the prospects who were dealt at the trade deadline this year. In the rankings, he also includes what he describes as “post-prospects players” who were dealt, which includes Spencer Howard, acquired by the Rangers, along with Nick Madrigal and Abraham Toro.
The Rangers landed three of the top ten players on this list, with Howard, who reportedly should make his Rangers debut on Thursday, coming in at #6, between Austin Martin and Kevin Alcantara. Ezequiel Duran and Josh Smith are at 8 and 10, sandwiching Abraham Toro.
Hans Crouse checks in at #14, with Fangraphs noting he’s improved his “pitchability” this year, but also has a lot of reliever risk. I’ve seen some folks say they prefer Crouse to Howard, and of course, if that is your view, you’re going to see the deal with the Phillies as a terrible trade for Texas. The consensus, however, still seems to be that there’s a decent sized gap between Howard and Crouse, and that gap would seem to be about the size of Kyle Gibson, based on the deal that went down.
Anyway, check out the list...
