The Texas Rangers have activated catcher Jonah Heim from the COVID-19 injured list, it was announced today. To clear a spot on the active roster, the Rangers returned Hyeon-jong Yang to AAA Round Rock.

Heim was a late scratch in last Monday’s series finale in Boston, and ended up staying behind with the other players in the COVID protocol, landing on the list the next day. In his absence Yohel Pozo was the backup catcher, though the Rangers chose to play Jose Trevino as much as possible, only sending Pozo out for a start in yesterday’s game against the Rockies. Heim was getting the majority of the starts at catcher when he went on the COVID list.

Yang is returned to Round Rock under the COVID protocols that allow you to assign a player who was called up and added to the 40 man roster during an outbreak to be removed and returned to the minors without being put on waivers.
