47-86 - Rangers squander opportunity for sweep, lose finale to Rockies 9-5

Herbie’s lament

MLB: Colorado Rockies at Texas Rangers Tim Heitman-USA TODAY Sports

The Texas Rangers scored five runs but the Colorado Rockies scored nine runs.

I knew the games in this series were getting a little too similar. The Rangers won the first couple of contests by a run each with Colorado mounting comeback attempts that just fell short in both.

Today, up 5-4 in the bottom of the ninth, Texas collapsed after sporting a 5-0 earlier in the game when they allowed five runs while committing four errors — three by Nathaniel Lowe — in the final frame to ultimately lose 9-5.

With the sweep swept aside, the Rangers failed in their attempt to tie their season best four-game winning streak that they enjoyed at the tail end of June.

Player of the Game (is now Leody of the Game): Two more hits for Leody Taveras. Another stolen base. A run scored. A team-high two RBI. It was a good series for the young center fielder after what had been a dreadful season at the highest level. I still believe in Leo!

Up Next: The Rangers have tomorrow off before venturing out West to begin a series in Anaheim against the Angels beginning on Friday night.
