Minor league update for 9/10/21

Cole Winn pitched well and Josh Jung homered, so the minors were good

Down East played a pair after Thursday’s rainout. In Game One, Destin Dotson pitched three shutout innings — including the extra eighth inning with a zombie runner on — striking out four. Thomas Saggese and Cody Freeman each had hits. Luisangel Acuna had a walk and a stolen base.

In Game Two, Mason Englert started and gave up four runs in three innings, striking out four. Michael Brewer threw three perfect innings, striking out five. Thomas Saggese drew a pair of walks. Daniel Mateo had a walk, a hit and a stolen base. Aaron Zavala had a hit, two walks and two stolen bases. Keyber Rodriguez had a single and a double.

Avery Weems started for Hickory on Friday. He allowed five runs in four innings of work, striking out six and walking three. Nic Laio allowed four runs in 1.2 IP, walking two, striking out two and allowing a pair of home runs.

Dustin Harris singled, homered, and walked twice. Ezequiel Duran had a single, a double, and a stolen base. David Garcia had a home run and a walk.

This was Hickory’s 12th loss in a row. Their last win was on August 27.

Frisco had Cole Winn start, and Winn threw three shutout innings, striking out three and walking one. Tim Brennan, who has missed most of the year due to injury, allowed three runs in 3.1 IP. Daniel Robert continued to impress, throwing 1.2 scoreless innings, allowing a hit and a walk while striking out three, and lowering his AA ERA to 0.66. Alex Speas walked three and struck out two in 0.2 IP. Hever Bueno faced, and retired, one batter.

Justin Foscue and Sam Huff each had a hit and a walk. Bubba Thompson, Josh Stowers and Blaine Crim all had hits.

For Round Rock, Jason Bahr had a scoreless inning of work, though he walked two and allowed a hit while striking out two. Cole Uvila struck out four in two innings while allowing a pair of runs.

Josh Jung was two for four with a homer and a walk. Steele Walker doubled. Carl Chester had a single and a double.

Josh Gessner started for the Surprise Squad, going five innings, allowing two runs on four hits and two walks while striking out eight. Aidan Curry allowed four runs in two innings on two walks and two Ks. Adrian Rodriguez allowed two runs in an inning of work.

Willie Calhoun continued his rehab, walking and double. Anderson Tejeda continued his rehab with a three for four day that included a double.

Tucker Mitchell tripled. Ian Moller drew a pair of walks. Zion Bannister had a hit and three walks. Junior Paniagua, Keithron Moss and Marcus Smith all drew walks.
