The Texas Rangers scored three runs but the New York Yankees scored four runs.
The Yankees scored those four runs off tonight’s starter A.J. Alexy before the end of the third inning and it seemed like they were off the the races with a chance to blow out the Rangers and keep themselves on the teetering edge of the AL Wild Card hunt.
A funny thing happened though as the Rangers stopped allowing runs and then put the next three on the board in the top of the fifth to pull to within one.
Ultimately, both bullpens were up to the task tonight as neither team scored the rest of the way and the Rangers’ comeback attempt was halted to allow New York to eke out the victory.
The Rangers are once again 40 games below .500.
Player of the Game: These Joey Gallo and Joely Rodriguez fellas that the Yankees were running out there seem like pretty good ballplayers.
Up Next: The Rangers take on these Yankees once again in the middle game of this series with RHP Dane Dunning listed as tomorrow night’s starter for Texas against LHP Jordan Montgomery for New York.
Tuesday night’s first pitch from New Yankee Stadium is scheduled for 6:05 pm CT.
