Prior to Thursday’s Round Rock game, it was announced that Cole Winn, Sam Huff and Davis Wendzel were being promoted to AAA Round Rock. For Winn, its an opportunity to get a few more innings, as well as getting a taste of more advanced competition after a terrific year at AA. For Huff and Wendzel, who missed a significant amount of time in 2021 due to injuries, it is an opportunity to get some more at bats at a level that they likely will be starting at in 2022.
Winn started for the Express and went three-plus innings. He allowed no runs through three, then allowed a homer and a pair of singles in the fourth before being lifted, with the two singles ultimately coming around to score off reliever Collin Wiles.
Matt Bush, continuing to rehab with Round Rock, threw 0.2 scoreless innings, allowing a walk and a hit. Yerry Rodriguez threw 1.1 scoreless innings, striking out two while allowing a walk and a hit.
Josh Jung had two walks and a three run homer in the bottom of the eighth to cut the Express deficit to 6-4. Sam Huff, making his debut as a pinch hitter with one out in the bottom of the ninth in a 6-5 game, doubled to tie the game, helping set up a walk off E1 to end the game two batters later. Curtis Terry singled.
