50-88 - Rangers eke out 3-1 win in opener against Diamondbacks

Make it three in a row for Texas

MLB: Texas Rangers at Los Angeles Angels Kirby Lee-USA TODAY Sports

The Texas Rangers scored three runs and the Arizona Diamondbacks scored one run.

In a game that was as thrilling as you might expect from two teams that have combined to lose 182 games this season, the Rangers were able to string together the necessary hits in a three-run fourth inning to eventually beat Arizona and collect their third victory in a row.

Player of the Game: There wasn’t a lot going on at the plate for either team tonight so Jordan Lyles takes the title for coming in as the main pitcher after Spencer Howard opened the game with two scoreless innings and pitched the final seven frames while allowing a run on three hits.

Lyles kept the ball in the ballpark and grabbed his eighth win of the season for his effort.

Up Next: The Rangers and Diamondbacks close out this brief set with RHP Kohei Arihara set to make the start for Texas against RHP Luke Weaver for Arizona. The first pitch in Wednesday’s finale is scheduled for 2:40 pm CT.
