Texas Rangers broadcaster C.J. Nitkowski is leaving the Rangers broadcasts to pursue opportunities to join the Atlanta Braves broadcasts, per a statement from Nitkowski.

Nitkowski, a former long-time major league pitcher who had a brief stint with the Rangers in 2002, joined the Rangers television broadcast team for the 2017 season. Since then, he has been one of the primary announcers handling the broadcasts, primarily with Dave Raymond.

No word yet as to who will be replacing Nitkowski, although former Rangers David Murphy and Dave Valle both spent a fair amount of time in the booth this year, and it wouldn’t be surprising if one or both of them ended up taking on the bulk of the role Nitkowski filled.

Nitkowski said that the move was about being closer to his family and reducing the travel demands that the job entails. No official word yet as to what his responsibilities will be with the Braves broadcasts, if and when that comes to fruition.
