Tampa Bay Rays infielder Wander Franco has been arrested in Puerto Plata in the Dominican Republic after being interviewed by prosecutors, according to Hector Gomez on Twitter. Gomez says that Franco will be arraigned on Wednesday, with prosecutors expected to ask that Franco be held without bail.

Franco, 22, was placed on the Tampa Bay Rays’ restricted list on August 13, 2023, due to allegations of an inappropriate relationship with an underaged minor in the D.R. He was then placed on administrative leave by MLB on August 22, 2023. The minor in question was reportedly 14 years old at the time. In addition, there was a second allegation of an inappropriate relationship made against Franco by a 17 year old in the Dominican Republic soon after reports first surfaced.

Franco won’t be playing in the majors for the foreseeable future. He will not be active while the judicial process plays out. Even if he does not end up with significant jail time, he will most likely be facing a suspension from MLB once this is all resolved.
