2024 Hall of Fame Poll: Chase Utley

Should Chase Utley be voted into the Baseball Hall of Fame?

As we wait for spring training to start, I thought I might run some polls regarding some of the guys on the Hall of Fame ballot this year.

Today we are looking at second baseman Chase Utley.

Utley spent 16 years in the majors, primarily with the Philadelphia Phillies before finishing out his career with the Los Angeles Dodgers. Utley was a career .275/.358/.465 hitter. He was named to the All Star team six times and won the Silver Slugger four times. He had a five year run from 2005-09 where he had a 39.7 bWAR — an average of almost 8 per year — and ended his career with 64.5 bWAR and 61.6 fWAR. H

Utley’s Hall of Fame case is hurt primarily by two things, I think. First, his counting numbers suffer because he didn’t play a full season until age 26, and played at least 140 games in a season just five times. Secondly, like so many under-rated guys, he was solid across the board but without one big carrying skill — the guys who are good at everything but don’t have one loud thing they can point to often get overlooked.

Do you believe Chase Utley should be elected to the Baseball Hall of Fame this year?
