  • So ends the winning streak.
  • Michael Lorenzen went five innings, and took a 3-1 lead into the bottom of the sixth. One batter, one double, and at 91 pitches Lorenzen’s night was done.
  • Maybe Lorenzen gets another batter or two if it is someone other than Christian Yelich due up. But with the lefty due up, and Lorenzen at 91 pitches anyway and not going much longer, Bruce Bochy brought Jacob Latz into the game.
  • I saw criticism on Twitter about that decision, with folks saying that Latz shouldn’t have been called on there. The thing is, its the sixth inning. Bochy likely doesn’t want Leclerc, Robertson or Yates to be asked to go more than an inning apiece if they don’t have to, and Jose Urena threw four innings the day before. At that point, your choices are Latz, Brock Burke, Jonathan Hernandez and Dane Dunning. Latz is pretty obviously the best choice.
  • He didn’t get the job done, of course. He walked Yelich on nine pitches, walked Willy Adames on a 3-2 count to load the bases, threw a get-ahead strike to Rhys Hoskins, and Hoskins crushed it for a grand slam. A 3-1 lead becomes a 5-3 deficit and that, for all intents and purposes, was that.
  • We might want to mention as an aside that the Ranger offense could have helped things by scoring a few more runs. 10 runners left on base on Monday...not great.
  • Texas scored a pair of runs in the fifth on an RBI Marcus Semien single and an RBI Corey Seager single. Adolis Garcia homered to lead off the sixth. That was it for the scoring.
  • The Rangers did threaten in the seventh, loading the bases on walks to Leody Taveras, Josh Smith and Adolis Garcia, bringing up Nathaniel Lowe with two outs. That resulted in a three pitch K of Lowe, and that was that.
  • Wyatt Langford had a 106.9 mph single. Adolis Garcia’s home run was 104.7 mph off the bat. Jonah Heim had a 104.6 mph single and a 101.8 mph single. Marcus Semien had a 103.8 mph single.
  • Michael Lorenzen hit 95.6 mph with his fastball. Jacob Latz touched 96.8 mph with his fastball. Jonathan Hernandez’s sinker reached 97.7 mph. Jose Leclerc hit 95.6 mph with his fastball.
  • Let us move on.
